Delia is the happiest girl in the world. At the age of 18, she has just won a beautiful car thanks to a competition organized by a brand of orange juice. To take possession of the car, she has to shoot a commercial extolling the virtues of the juice. But Delia isn’t a very good actress, the shooting conditions aren’t optimal and the takes are numerous. Jude directed many commercials to make a living and drew the theme of the film from real-life incidents. If an underlying criticism can be discerned in the film, it is not directed at the advertisement per se, but at the often ridiculous expectations of the world it creates. “One of the landmark works in the Romanian film renaissance, Radu Jude’s debut feature is a perfectly paced and darkly funny satire on contemporary life” (Institute of Contemporary Arts).
