Born in Banja Luka and based in Berlin, Dane Komljen is known for his atmospheric and visually powerful work, which explores issues of identity, community, and existential quest through a deeply sensory cinematic language. Here, he explores the fluidity of desire and identity through Branko, a young man wandering the margins of Belgrade. Isolated and restless, he obsessively follows the enigmatic life of his younger brother, from whom he seems to be irrevocably separated ‒ perhaps because he is now dead. The dead man's search for his brother takes us on a journey through nature, into the forests, and to an explosive encounter between natural and inner landscapes, where Komljen explores, as he himself notes, a new relationship between nature and the queer.
Dane Komljen is a filmmaker whose work explores the body, space, and utopia. His feature films, including All the Cities of the North, have earned awards at major festivals like Locarno, Rotterdam, and Cannes. His art is showcased globally, from Centre Pompidou to the ICA. He currently teaches cinema in Hamburg.
