In 1937 Romania, amidst the turmoil in Europe, the young writer Emmanuel finds himself on the shores of the Black Sea for therapy. In love with Solange, he recounts his efforts, and those of his companions, to live life to the fullest while resisting isolation. Set just before World War II, the film tackles themes of anti-Semitism and the rise of fascism while drawing inspiration from the life of Max Blecher, often referred to as the “Kafka of Romania” by Eugene Ionesco.
