Elisa, thirty-five, has been in prison for ten years, convicted of killing her older sister without apparent motive and burning her body. She claims to remember little to nothing of the crime, as if she had drawn a veil of silence between herself and the past. But when she decides to meet with criminologist Alaoui and take part in his research, in a tense and relentless dialogue memories begin to take shape, and in the pain of fully accepting her guilt, Elisa glimpses, perhaps, the first step toward a possible redemption.

After studying ethno-anthropology at the University of Naples, Leonardo Di Costanzo moved to Paris in 1992, where he built a solid reputation in documentary filmmaking, receiving awards at international festivals. His first fiction film, L’intervallo (Venice), won the David di Donatello for Best Debut and the FIPRESCI Prize. L’intrusa was selected at Cannes (Directors’ Fortnight), and with L’avamposto he joined the collective film Les ponts de Sarajevo (Cannes). In 2021, he presented Ariaferma (Venice), winner of two David di Donatello Awards and Film of the Year by the Italian National Film Critics Union. He later directed Welcome to Paradise.
