Summary Two wealthy Athenians, a writer and an architect, Pavlos (Dimitris Horn) and Antonis, visit the island of Hydra. There they rent two rooms in a spacious but neglected house that belongs to a widow, Froso (Eleni Zafeiriou) with two children. Froso’s affair with a local man creates problems for her children, Marina (Elli Lampeti) and Mitsos (Anestis Vlachos), who are ashamed of their mother’s degradation. Pavlos gets romantically involved with Marina, which angers Mitsos and provokes the envy of certain locals. Among them is Christos (Giorgos Fountas), who has been flirting Marina to no avail. The relationship between Pavlos and Marina causes friction between the two friends, and Antonis decides to return to Athens. A dirty trick that Christos and his friends plan to play on Pavlos (they have removed a crucial pin from the boat that Pavlos is going to take for a row) - leads to tragedy, with innocent children as the victims. In this heavy atmosphere following this tragic incident, the love of the two young people seems a frivolous vanity.
