MARIA PENTAGIOTISSA
In 1939 the motion picture was made into a sound film in Hollywood. In the village of Pentagious in Central Greece, a beautiful girl (Nela Mai-Frida Poupelina), baptized by Father Gabriil (Achilleas Madras), gets all the young men in the area burning with desire for her, but her heart is set on a rich shepherd son (Simos Paris). Maria is abducted by gang leader Lamaras (Aimilios Veakis). The royal couple Othon and Amalia (Ilias Kakanas and Maritsa Andreadou) are visiting the area and take the girl under their protection with the intention of marrying her off. But she manages to get away, meets up with the young man of her heart and the two of them together take revenge on the people who had imposed themselves on her and restrained her freedom.
