Summary In 1948, the American journalist George Polk arrives in Thessaloniki for an interview with Markos Vafeiadis, a few days after “The Government in the Mountains” was formed. The Greek-American Papas arranges for Polk to come into contact with the journalist Staktopoulos. She herself is cooperating with a British agent. A few days later, Polk disappears. When his body is found, the government comes under intense pressure to locate the perpetrator. Under these circumstances, the police finger Staktopoulos as the guilty one, and he is sentenced.
