Summary A petty crook Loukas tries to take advantage of the supposed “high-class” connections which his association with prisoners offers him, so that when he is released from prison he can “hit the jackpot”. He figures out how to decipher the code of a note from a friend of a fellow prisoner which refers to a hidden treasure, and that’s how he thinks he will hit the jackpot. In a little while, after he has been released, he is ready to act, but fate commands otherwise. He meets and falls passionately in love with a completely innocent poor girl, Maria, who comes into his life and, in an almost magical way, manages the impossible – she inspires him to go straight.
