Credits It says in the programme that Tennessee Williams' big stage hit "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" was "masterly" adapted for the screen by R. Brooks under the title Cat On Α Hot Tin Roof. There is an account of the storyline, which is set in the "inexhaustible" American South. Maggie, the title character, tries to win back her husband's attentions, when she notices that a third person has come between them. There is a critical appraisal of the film and the illustrious cast, with Elisabeth Taylor in one of her best roles ever, and Paul Newman as her worthy co-star. The programme concludes with comments and biographical notes on Williams and Brooks; assessment of Williams' stage characters across the entire range of his theatrical output, focusing separately on "heroes" and "heroines"; the director's suggestive filmography.
