The lengthy programme begins with the remark that the film is not only a "landmark in Erotic Cinema, but also one of the happiest moments of the Great Four on which the film stands" (Tennessee Williams, Elia Kazan, Vivien Leigh, Marlon Brando". Finally, there is a comment on the difficulty in adapting the stage play for the screen and that the film is nowhere near what might be termed "filmed play". The programme concludes with reference to the critics' divided opinion about how this film compares to his earlier productions.
