The pairing of the legend of Orpheus with everyday reality (the Favelas and the Carnival in Rio) is the basic premise of the film, which is inspired by a short story by the great Brazilian poet Vinicius de Moraes. The spontaneity of the dancers, in combination with the samba music, the images of the landscapes and the Carnival, contributed to the huge commercial success of the film, which won the Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival. Finally, the presentation makes a brief reference to the creator of the film, Marcel Camus and his filmography.
