A brief presentation of the film which unfolds during World War II: an old Russian peasant decides to go to the hospital to visit his injured son; he doesn’t know, however, that his son, having got well, has left the hospital. By a series of odd events and coincidences, the old man finds himself at the war, and he triumphs in his march from the Caucasus to Germany, “not as a winner-conqueror, but as a human”, a witness to the huge tragedy that the Caucasian people suffered during Hitler’s attack. A moving and simple film, with awe-inspiring photography, which renders “realistically the setting of the battles as well as the life of the people in the Soviet hinterland”.
