In the film “ROCCO AND HIS BROTHERS”, Luchino Visconti focuses on one of the greatest social problems of the 1960s in Italy: the massive migration of the people living in the poor and underdeveloped South to the cities of the rich North, combining tragedy and realism. The programme gives a detailed description of the plot as well as extracts from an interview that Luchino Visconti gave to G. Bakogiannopoulos in 1960. The major roles are played by “extraordinary” Katina Paxinou and Alain Delon. The programme also refers to the place that the film holds as the last of the neo-realism trilogy by Visconti – the first one being “OBSESSION (OSSESSIONE)” in 1942 and the second one “THE EARTH TREMBLES (LA TERRA TREMA)” in 1948, as well as to other films of the director.
