Robert Wiene, director of “THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI” (1919), is the most brilliant representative of expressionism, which, for some researchers, is called "caligraphy". It is a movement that brings forth the creative power of will and individualism, and seeks images in memory, imagination and other mental structures, presenting man refracted through the prism of this imaginary dimension. Then it observes that it was no accident that the movement began in Germany, since it responds to the need of an ambitious people that seeks new power through mysticism and magic. In the film “RASKOLNIKOW” (1923), inspired by Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s novel, Wiene meets a hero who is the ideal figure for the director to develop all the characteristics of expressionism. Finally, the programme mentions that, in this film, Wiene worked with the great artistic director Andrei Andrejew.
