The review of the film begins with a quotation from Samuel Fuller about the cinema.
Two romantic temperaments are self-destructed and annihilate each other in a conflict of escape routes from their everyday reality, like the heroes in nouvelle vague. Nevertheless, the film marks Godard's passage into a more politically oriented cinema, which expresses concern about the political developments and echoes the rebirth of society, leading to his next films: "CHINESE", "WEEKEND", "AWAY FROM VIETNAM”, "MADE IN USA", and "PASSION", which will be shown at the Cannes Festival.
Improvisation, spontaneity, an unsettled scenario, reference to advertising slogans and poems combined with the betrayed love for America that hints at the inextricable interweaving of the gangster element with the pantomime on the Vietnam War, beautifully photographed by Raul Cutar make up Godard's unique imagery and language.
