Friedrich Murnau and Robert Flaherty's "TABOO" was filmed entirely on location at the islands BORA BORA in the South Seas; it takes the reader to a land of paradise, where he gets to know the everyday life, rituals and customs of the indigenous population. The film is about the love of a pearl diver for a "taboo" girl, that is, a girl dedicated to the gods. The illegal couple runs away to share love until they are eventually arrested and suffer the consequences of their unholy action. It is noted that locals were used in the film for added realism.
