Michelangelo Antonioni's "BLOW UP" is adapted from a novel by Julio Cortazar. It is noted that the plot of the film "seems to elude the viewer and the main characters all the time, this effort to identify reality with one's thoughts and actions". It is also noted that Antonioni aptly mounts two challenges to himself: to direct a film outside Italy and, unlike his earlier films, identify himself with a man rather than woman, so that he no longer need to express himself through a woman's sensitivity; this makes his style more intellectual.
