ΤΑΙΝΙΟΘΗΚΗ ΤΗΣ ΕΛΛΑΔΟΣ, ΜΙΚΡΗ ΛΕΣΧΗ (ΚΑΝΑΡΗ 1) - ALEXANDER THE GREAT

Comprehensive program by Aglaїa Mītropoulou. From its beginning the program informs us about the intentions of the director mentioning the desire of Aggelopoulos to go back to the “mythical model which has entered into folk mythology and is presented as symbol of freedom, equality and unification with the whole world”. Then it describes the use of this symbol during centuries and concludes again to the director’s desire to relieve the symbol of ALEXANDER THE GREAT from the “burden” of historical truth and to bring it “closer to folk soul”. It continues by presenting the content of the movie which is based on the sad incident of Dilesi robbery in 1870, and the decay of the chief of the robbers who had been deteriorated by power and was finally haunted down by his rebels. In the last scenes, a small boy as a new Alexander brings hope with him.
