ΤΑΙΝΙΟΘΗΚΗ ΤΗΣ ΕΛΛΑΔΟΣ, ΜΙΚΡΗ ΛΕΣΧΗ (ΚΑΝΑΡΗ 1) - SOCIAL DECAY
The program starts with information about the “first social movie” (silent movie) “with realistic subject about the working class”. Presentation of the film plot which has as the central character a student, who has to leave his studies and work as a tobacco worker in order to be able to survive. The leading character finally becomes leader of the tobacco labor union in their fight for social justice. Reference to Aglaїa Mītropoulou, her associates and the director’s efforts to reach the movie to REX Theater and to be restored at a 95% of its initial form. The movie, even in its restored form, provoked positive feelings regarding its “bold” social examination.
