ΤΑΙΝΙΟΘΗΚΗ ΤΗΣ ΕΛΛΑΔΟΣ, ΜΙΚΡΗ ΛΕΣΧΗ (ΚΑΝΑΡΗ 1) - MOR VRAN

As is indicated in the program’s introduction, the Greek Film Archive screened the documentary MOR VRAN in order to present to its audience Impressionism, an important period of the French Cinema. The program continues with biographical data of the director, as well as with a reference to other films of his. Jean Epstein was born in 1897 and wrote many remarkable essays on cinema theory. He began directing in 1922 and he was accepted by the cinema world with his very first film, "ΤHE RED INN", thanks to his excellent montage. He then directed the film "A FAITHFUL SOUL", which concerns the rivalry of two men for a woman. The theme of the film “THE BEAUTY FROM NIVERNAISE" is life at the canals and riverboats. In it, he applies his knowledge of the Swedish Cinema. Several other, more commercial films follow. He then goes on to direct more artistic films, such as the "FALL OF THE HOUSE OF THE ASER" and the "MIRROR WITH THREE FACES". His documentary ΜΟR VRAN, filmed in 1929 in Bretagne, refers to the hard life of fishermen in the area with lyricism and sensitivity. Very interesting are his documentaries "FINIS TERRAE" and "L’OR De MERE ".
