The critical presentation bears the initials M.M., standing for Mona Mitropoulou. It begins with thoughts on the ability of the cinema to introduce us to such a different civilization like that of Japan, analyses Japan’s social standing after the war and provides some information on the script. Short stories taking place in a shantytown dominated by a sense of nostalgia, disturbed by the sound of the tram. A reference to color that is introduced for the first time in a film by Kurosawa, following his new "visual outlook" and the director’s view.
