The presentation of the film, A WOMAN UNDER THE INFLUENCE starts with a reference to Casavettes and to the films that he directs or plays in. Next, the movie plot is analyzed which has as its theme the emotional depression of a married woman with family. Casavettes observes the reactions of the leading lady and of her family and records them letting the actors free to develop their roles. The director closes the film with a happy note, as the couple is left by itself and the woman seems to calm down in the company and love of her husband. His message is that "Hell is the Others and Paradise can be given to us only through the others".
