The film is based on the novel by Guy de Maupassant, "One Life", and refers to the story of a woman, married with some one that she does not and cannot, despite all this, divorce, as the divorce is still prohibited. The theme of the film concerns the hardships of living together and of the different approach to marriage by the man and the woman. The film that run a high cost is not of the best of its film maker, but its strengths are the emotional performance of the leading lady and its wonderful photography.
