The plot of the film refers to the story of a young lady who was sold in order to help her family, when their house in the village was burned down. Its interest lies on the one hand in the leading actor, Mozhukin, the most expressive star of Russian cinema and on the other, on the fact that the film refers to the problems in the life of the muzhiks.
