The program starts with a reference to the effect of gambling on the writing of literary plays, several of which were shot as movies. The screen play of the film that was written and directed by Chartynin, was based in the opera QUEEN OF SPADES, which is an adaptation of the famous Pushkin novel with the same title (Pikovaya dama in Russian) by the Tchaikovsky brothers. The film, which is the first motion picture version of the QUEEN OF SPADES, met with great success and it was the reason for another one to be made in 1916.
