The program starts with the socio-historical analysis of England and of its role in the development of the cinema during the specific period. DARLING is the life of Diana, a girl from the high society of Chelsea, smart, pretty and liberated, who is having an intense love life but becomes constantly more neurotic and miserable. Slessinger's film is ambitious and characterized as the British version of Fellini's DOLCE VITA, without the poetic symbolism of the latter. The star (Julie Christi) was awarded with the Oscar and established herself as the personification of that time.
