A German paratrooper named Stroszek, who was wounded in Crete is sent to Kos along with his wife, a Greek nurse and two other soldiers who are also lightly wounded. They are in an old castle and they guard the stock of ammunition. They don't have much to do and Stroszek goes mad. He drives away from the castle all the others and threatens to burn down the entire town. In the film SIGNS OF LIFE (LEBENSZEICHEN) of the German director Werner Herzog the specific external plot of the myth is not such a decisive factor, as much as is a war "with the arsenal of its organized violence". Stroszek is trying to destroy what the people themselves have built.
