Emile Clément, who is played by Maurice Chevallier, is a French producer in the beginning of the century. A friend of his leaves his underage daughter at his home, when he starts a tour in France. Emile falls in love with her.
Among the particularities of the film SILENCE IS GOLD (LE SILENCE EST D'OR) is also the fact that Maurice Chevallier does not sing in this specific film.
René Clair has reproduced very well the French studios of the beginning of the century.
The reviews have several times compared Clair to Shakespeare, Jean Paulan, Lafontaine and this thanks to sharp efficiency of the dialogue of his films.
