ΚΙΝΗΜΑΤΟΓΡΑΦΙΚΗ ΛΕΣΧΗ ΛΑΡΙΣΗΣ - ΔΙΚΗ, H
Programme of the Cinema Club of Larissa, a division of the Hellenic Film Archives, where the film: “THE TRIAL” by Orson Wells was screened.
The programme begins with a meditation on the difficulty of writing about the problem of existence and consciousness which has always concerned man, leading him to seek refuge in the embrace of various religions. A good example of such a meditation can be found in Franz Kafka’s novel “THE TRIAL” where the hero, Joseph K. Tries to discover why he is being accused and of which crime – expressing the anxiety of existence and justice regarding self and others.
The programme continues by focusing on the exceptional cinematography of Orson Wells “the loudmouthed, egotistical pagan genius who loved Kafka’s work”, who, with his directorial baton managed to explore and express this question, about which the author had so prophetically written, namely, the enslavement of humans by bureaucracy. Characteristic of this idea are the scenes where Joseph K. Leaves his office and enters the labyrinthine Palace of Justice. The programme concludes with a discussion of how adroitly Wells directed his actors. Anthony Perkins literally transformed himself into Joseph K., while Wells himself appears in the film as an attorney.
