Program of the Larisa Cinema Club, a branch of the Greek Film Archive. Screening of the film "AN EYE FOR AN EYE " by Andre Cayatte. The note, edited by B. Vozalis, begins with the narration of the highly interesting personal story of Andre Cayatte – it describes how he switched over from law to film direction, taken by a case of murder he had undertaken as a lawyer.
Defending an innocent man who is being tagged as a murderer in order to comply to the interests of the police, Kayat states: “ I thought that as the Press could not be of great help, the only way to prove Slesic’s innocence was to film the bill of indictment, just as it happens at races with the filming of the finishing line. I thought of putting the cinema at the service of truth and reality.
The film to be screened, "AN EYE FOR AN EYE ", is based on the book by the Syro-armenian writer Vahé Katcha and constitutes a modern rendition of the myth of the Furies. A doctor does not perform what is needed to save a woman who finally dies. Afterwards, his remorse is incarnated in the face of her husband, who is determined to take revenge.
An announcement of the films that are to be screened later on follows: 15/02/1966 IVAN THE TERRIBLE part 2, 22/02/1966 MOTHER by Pudovkin.
