A long and detailed critical analysis of the film with information on the director, his battle with Miller and his position on the question of how one can continue to support ideas in which one no longer believes. The ideal scenarist, John Steinbeck, chose as his hero Zapata, a selfless peasant extreme revolutionary. For Kazan, the quintessence of cinematic atmosphere was expressed by the western. He succeeded in making a film with Marlon Brando as its protagonist about which the programme concludes, as its final phrase on Zapata, that the peasants refused to accept the fact that he had been killed, saying: “We always dream that he is alive!”.
