In-depth critical appraisal of a film that won none of the four Academy awards it had been nominated for. However, the audience "certainly enjoyed a taste of Shakespeare's language". There is an interesting account of the director's approach to Shakespeare's language and the calculated risk he took when he cast Brando in Antonius' role, alongside Mason and Gielgud. The programme says that the film's pronounced political dimension and fast-moving dialogue have a stronger appeal to audiences today.
