Conceived by Claudius Ptolemy in 150 AD, the Almagest is the first mathematical and astrological compendium that established a geocentric model of the universe. A false yet enduring cosmology that shaped humanity’s anthropocentric illusion for over twelve centuries. Α cinematic essay / meditation on obsolete cosmologies and our collective darkness, unfolding through an image and text correspondence between a filmmaker and a writer, joined by the unsuspecting ghosts of André Breton and Marguerite Duras.
Marina Gioti is visual artist and filmmaker based in Athens. Her films and installations have been presented worldwide at numerous solo and group exhibitions, biennials and film festivals, including Toronto and Berlinale.In 2017 she participated in Documenta 14 in Athens and Kassel. She is the laureate of the 2022 Prix COAL for Art and Ecology and currently artist-in-residence at the Center for Genomics and Systems Biology, New York University Abu Dhabi.
