In the film Mother Ayşenur: the genesis of the Messiah (2017), the well-known feminist Muslim activist from Turkey, Ayşenur, is a mother. She is carrying a heavy responsibility: to raise the Messiah that will save the world. The reviewing of the film in 2020 renders it almost prophetic. By using messianism as an expression of hope for the pariah, the one who has been excepted from history, Ayşenur expressed the utopian political vision of a redeeming revolution that calls for the coming of a new world without borders, states, or religions. Through an allegoric, subversive, queer representation of the pilgrimage and the genesis of the Messiah as a political action rather than a passive anticipation, Ayşenur exposes dysfunctional but creative synergies between Eurocentric and post-colonial thought.
