Favorably disposed critical review of the film, which it characterizes as a prototype of the “journalistic genre” and, filmed with energy and sharpness by Lewis Milestone, comprises “a bitter satire on how far a reporter could go in order to obtain a hot story”. The director splendidly succeeded in adapting the theatrical play of Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur to the big screen, while the film is an example of excellent montage and use of sound. The notes end by mentioning the film’s Oscar nomination as well its remake by Billy Wilder.
