The presentation starts with a reference to the director and his overall work. In this silent film, Kirshanov is trying to bring together Russian editing and the German atmosphere of the time with French expressionism. The plot of the film is a simple, emotional story, which describes everyday life, without any melodramatic tones. The film could be characterized as "neo-realistic" although we are at a time before the term was established in film making. The role of the central heroine is played by the director's wife, Nadia Sibirskaya, who graces us with a succinct and touching performance.
