The presentation refers initially to the effect of religions on the meaning of sacrifice. The sacrifice issue underlies throughout Buñuel's work and the film NAZARENE is no exception. The central hero is a simple man full of faith who is trying to achieve sainthood by following the scriptures to the letter. He is attacked by everybody and in the end, instead of dying, as it happens usually, he loses his faith. One way or the other, a life was sacrificed.
