The note begins with the announcement that «THE GIRLFRIENDS», the adaptation of a social novel by Cesare Pavese –the tragic leading Italian realist who committed suicide – constitute Antonioni’s second attempt at directing. Antonioni started out as a critic and theorist of the cinema before he dedicated himself to direction. It is followed by the synopsis of the film, which presents the relations between four girlfriends : Clelia, Nomina, Roseta and Nene, along with the valuation that Antonioni’s film is a «handbook of applied psychology, with audacious notes on friendship, love, relationships between people, the notion of marriage, lies we tell ourselves or others”.
On the following page there is a text entitled «What is the Cinema Club”, written like a manifesto. It offers valuable information on the establishment of the Cinema Club in 1957, created by the Association of Cinema Critics of the Athenian Press, and the Greek Film Archive later. Below, the
text enumerates the goals of the Club s in their entirety: screening of films of acknowledged artistic value, in line with the distinction between «cinema as art» and «cinema as an industry»; discussion following the screening of each film; as well as the printing of an analytical program that encapsulates the ideology of their operation.
The text then sets forth the issue of «transparent» financial management of the institution, asking any member to corroborate it. A special mention is made to the management of the cinema «ACROPOLE», which offers the hall for free. The back cover bears a full-page advertisement of a furniture store.
